Sections of the HBA


Join a Section and connect in your practice area.  HBA Sections provide specialized opportunities and keep members informed of developments in particular fields of law.  Any member may join one or more Sections at any time.  Learn from others, improve your skills and connect!  Please note:  Section membership is only available to the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association members whose membership dues are current.

Criminal Law

The Criminal Defense Section has over one hundred active members. The goals of this section are to improve the advocacy skills of the members, to promote equal justice under law, and to provide continuing legal education to the members. The section acts as the voice for the delivery of quality criminal-defense services to the indigent.

Family Law

The Family Law Section of the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association was created to

  • Facilitate communication between the members of our bar association regarding family and domestic related matters.
  • Encourage and foster relationships with both the members and our local circuit and district court judges.
  • Promote the education and professional development of members of the Section.
  • Encourage members to participate in community service activities, including the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers’ Program, which offers pro bono services to clients of limited means.

Membership is free and open to any lawyer licensed to practice in Alabama and a member in good standing of the Huntsville Bar Association.

Real Estate Law

The Real Estate Section of the Huntsville Bar Association focuses on legal, policy, and procedural issues in the areas of state and local real property law.   The section's goal is to address relevant court decisions and legislation and bring them to the attention of the members of the Bar Association as necessary.

The section is a point of contact for counsel seeking to discuss such issues and provides a forum for counsel practicing in the area of real property law.

Membership in the section is free and open to all members of the Huntsville Bar Association.

Women's Section

The goal of the Women's Section of the Huntsville Bar Association is to further the personal and professional development of women with law degrees and to enhance the quality of life and culture of the legal community. The purpose of the section is to encourage participation by women in the practice of law, to enhance the quality of life for women who have chosen law as a profession, to provide role models and mentors for women seeking to enter or grow in the profession, and to provide an environment that fosters cooperation between and among women in the profession, thereby enhancing the profession as a whole.

Young Lawyers

The Young Lawyers Section hosts numerous networking, social, and continuing legal education events throughout the year that benefit not only those lawyers who are young in age and experience, but also the bar association and legal community as a whole. We strive to provide many continuing legal education events to our members and members of the Huntsville Bar Association for free. The Young Lawyers Section offers the energy and enthusiasm to accomplish projects that work towards the association’s goal of serving the needs of the greater Huntsville and Madison County area.

The membership of the Young Lawyers Section is free and open to any member of the bar if you have practiced for less than 5 years OR are under the age of 40.  If you are interested in being added to the Young Lawyers’ membership email list, please contact any of the current officers:
