Responsibilities

We're looking for an organized, detail-oriented, "take charge," and experienced paralegal to play an important role on our Estate Planning and Elder Law legal team. You'll draft legal documents such as Revocable Living Trusts, Wills, Financial and Health Care Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, probate administration documents, Medicaid Planning documents, guardianships, conservatorships, adoptions, deeds and affidavits, organize files for trial preparation, and keep case files and other important information neatly organized and easily accessible. Position Responsibilities:

  • Performs paralegal/secretarial work of a complex nature for attorney
  • Must be a current (or eligible) Alabama Notary Public
  • Must have the ability to master skills specific to estate planning, probate, elder law, and adoptions, including such tasks as correspondence, spreadsheets, minutes, reports and other documents
  • Prepare routine correspondence, memoranda and legal documents
  • Answer telephone, take messages, provide information and receive information concerning matters related to the legal work handled by the attorney
  • Maintain attorney calendar, on paper an in the computer
  • Prepare and send email, faxes, documents, mail, FedEx packages and other documents
  • Establish and maintain appropriate files and records
  • Maintain timely control files of matters in progress and follows up to ensure that court ordered actions are competed
  • Make arrangements for meetings, conferences and travel
  • Enter time into the time and billing system
  • Prepare monthly bills and statements to clients
  • Provide assistance to attorney as requested
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

If you’re selected for this position, you’ll have a strong background in Windows, Microsoft Word and word processing, being self-directed, possessing initiative, excellent at follow-up, management, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. A minimum of three years working as a paralegal in a law office is preferred, with an estate planning/elder law background preferred.
