October 12, 2016

The monthly meeting of the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association was held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at 12:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Law Library.  President, Doug Martinson, II, Vice President, Derek Simpson, and Treasurer, Travis Jackson presided.  The Honorable Donna Pate gave the invocation.

MINUTES AND TREASURER’S REPORT

The minutes were approved and distributed.  Travis Jackson, Treasurer, read the Treasurer’s report:

BAR ASSOCIATION

Compass General Acount: $54,163.30

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Guests were introduced were introduced after the invocation:  Amy Miller, Brad Emmons, Valerie Craig, and Jennifer Bottomley.

MEMBERSHIP AND PROFESSIONALISM COMMITTEE:

Tim McFalls, filling in for Jeremiah M. Hodges, Committee Chair, proposed the following for membership in the HMCBA and were unanimously approved:

Valerie Craig, Amanda Coolidge, Jennifer Bottomley, Hunter Tate and David Brice Johnson

Young LAWYERS:

Ty Shepard announced that there will be a Happy Hour today from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Old Town Beer Exchange.

MCVLP:

Taze Shepard announced that Pro Bono Brews will be October 21, 2016, at the Roundhouse. He also announced that John Brinkley is the winner of the September Pro Bono raffle.

OTHER:

The Huntsville Networking Reception with the University of Alabama second and third year law students will be October 13, 2016, at Amendment XXI from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

PROGRAM:

The Inaugural 2016 Profiles in Professional Courage Award was presented by Dag Rowe to Earl Davis McNeal, posthumously.  Accepting the award, were his wife, Cathy McNeal, and son, Davis McNeal.

Committee members for this award were recognized:  Honorable Donna Pate, Dag Rowe, Doug Martinson, Mark Debro, Rankin Sneed, Julian Butler & Ty Shepard.

President, Doug Martinson, presented award to Suzanne D. Currie for her service as past president for the HMCBA.  Doug Martinson introduced Gene Marsh as our speaker for the meeting.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
